Why people talk but won't type

Most forms die in the first field. A blank text box asks for effort, and effort is exactly what a distracted respondent is unwilling to spend.

Talking is cheaper than typing

People will happily say three sentences they'd never bother to type. Speech is lower-friction, more natural, and — crucially — faster for the respondent:

• No keyboard, no tab-through, no tiny mobile inputs.
• Follow-up questions feel like conversation, not interrogation.
• Tone and nuance survive that a one-word text answer would flatten.

When you remove the cost of answering, completion rates climb and the answers themselves get richer.

That's the whole premise of a voice form: meet people where talking is easy.
